Kobayashi is a 25-year-old programmer who lives a dull life that revolves around her work. One day, after work, she ends up drunk as a skunk, goes to the mountains and meets and helps a dragon named Tohru who comes from another world. The next day, Tohru shows up at her house and takes human form, offering herself as her servant in gratitude. Although she is reluctant at first, her hard and antisocial heart softens and she decides to accept her because she has nowhere else to go. Both her dragon form and her dedication as a servant seem to suit Kobayashi's needs, but they also end up getting her into more than one mess and bringing one problem after another. Although their relationship becomes closer and Tohru is deeply in love with Kobayashi, her presence does not stop attracting other dragons to our world that end up turning our programmer's dull life upside down.
